Orthodontics and Its Benefits

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics, more commonly known as braces, is the art and science of using physics to rotate and move oral structures into the proper position.

What are the options?

At Breese Dental Care we offer both traditional bracket and wire ortho, as well as clear aligner therapy. Options depends on patient age and level of complexity.

I am fine with how my teeth look, why should I consider orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontics is about more than just a nice smile. When teeth are not properly aligned they are more prone to fracture, wear, and have less function. Improperly positioned teeth are also more susceptible to tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Some people have inadequate space to allow teeth to come in normally, leading to crowded or crooked teeth. This lack of space can also cause breathing problems later in life.

What is the process?

At Breese Dental Care we offer a free consult to anyone interested in braces. This appointment offers a chance to sit down with the doctor and find out more about treatment options and benefits. The next step is the records visit, where we will get your medical and dental history, necessary x-rays, photographs, and models of your teeth, as well as anything else we may need to properly plan your case. The final step before beginning treatment is a discussion, where we will go over the necessary phases and steps of treatment to ensure that everyone involved knows the plan for treatment.

What if I see another dentist?

We would be happy to let your primary dentist know that we will be seeing you for orthodontic treatment. We will keep them updated on your orthodontic progress.

Is it going to hurt?

Usually not. You may feel tension for a few days. You can use medications for pain if needed.

Do I still need regular checkups?

Yes. We will monitor teeth movement, but not tooth decay.

What foods can I eat?

It is important to avoid sticky, sugary foods to avoid tooth decay or white marks. Hard, crunchy, or sticky foods can also break off brackets and delay treatment.
Crooked Teeth and Jaw out of alignment Orthodontic treatment is an effective solution for crooked teeth and a jaw that is out of alignment.
Orthodontic brackets bonded Most treatments require brackets to be bonded to your teeth and a wire running from tooth to tooth.
Retainers for Orthodontics Once your teeth have been repositioned, you may be required to wear a temporary retainer to keep your teeth in position.
Straight and Beautiful Teeth Upon completion of your treatment, your teeth will be straight and beautiful, improving your overall health and confidence.
